Before The Red Carpet, Alia Bhatt Stole The Streets Of Cannes In A Dreamy Ball Dress
Some celebrities save their best looks for the carpet. Alia Bhatt, apparently, sees no reason to wait.
Ahead of her official red carpet appearance at Cannes 2026, the actress stepped out on the streets of the French Riviera in a look that stopped people mid-stride, a voluminous mint-green ball gown that had absolutely no business being worn on a cobblestone street, and looked absolutely perfect doing exactly that.
Alia Bhatt's Pre-Red Carpet Cannnes Dress
For this pre-carpet appearance, Alia slipped into a stunning mint-green midi ball dress featuring delicate strappy sleeves and a plunging neckline that added a subtle boldness to the otherwise romantic silhouette. What truly elevated the look was the voluminous, sculpted skirt that flared out dramatically, giving the outfit a graceful ballgown-inspired structure.
The detailing deserves its own sentence. The gown featured intricate floral and leaf-inspired detailing across the fabric, adding depth and an almost hand-painted softness to the overall look. The delicate embellishments brought a dreamy, garden-like aesthetic, making the ensemble feel ethereal without looking overly dramatic.
Mint green, as a palette choice, is doing a lot of heavy lifting right now in fashion, sitting comfortably between soft pastels and statement colour. On Alia, against the light of the Riviera, it landed somewhere between garden party and fairytale.
The Styling: Less Is More
This is where the look really speaks. Keeping the focus entirely on the dress, Alia opted for minimal accessories, just a pair of sparkling diamond studs and classic white heels, proving once again that understated styling can make the loudest statement.
Her glam stayed fresh and signature Alia, a soft, dewy base paired with rosy cheeks, highlighted skin, muted eye makeup, and glossy nude lips that perfectly complemented the pastel palette of the outfit.
No heavy jewellery. No dramatic eye. Just great skin, a great dress, and the confidence to wear a ballgown like it is the most normal thing in the world to do on a Tuesday afternoon in Cannes.
The Cannes 2026 Context
This is Alia's second consecutive year at the festival, returning as a L'Oréal Paris global ambassador alongside the likes of Eva Longoria, Jane Fonda, and Viola Davis. During Cannes 2025, Alia first appeared in an ivory-nude Schiaparelli gown, then closed the festival wearing a custom sari-inspired Gucci creation decorated with Swarovski crystals, highlighting her signature mix of Indian references and international labels.
She arrived on the Riviera this year, having already served a moment at the Mumbai airport, and then landed in France in a sculpted Carolina Herrera blazer with puffed shoulders, coordinating capris, and a Gucci Jackie 1961 Medium Shoulder Bag, establishing a very clear style arc: structured and monochrome by day, ethereal and voluminous by night.
The mint ball gown sits squarely in that second lane, and suggests the red carpet looks still to come has a high bar to clear.
Bottomline
Alia Bhatt did not walk into Cannes 2026 quietly. She arrived in an all-black airport look, switched to a dreamy mint ball gown for the streets, and has not even hit the official carpet yet. Whatever she wears next, she has already made the point: at Cannes, the show starts well before the cameras are pointed at the stairs.
