Ekadasi or Ekadashi is a sacred day observed by doing a fast on every 11th tithi (lunar day) of the lunar month as per the Hindu calendar. There are a total of two Ekadashi, which falls every month - On 11th lunar day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) and the 11th of the Krishna Paksha (waning moon). While Gaura Paksha or Shukla Paksha is the first fortnight of the brightening or waxing of the moon, Vadhya paksha or Krishna Paksha is the second fortnight of the fading or waning of the moon.
Ekadashi is considered as the day of Lord Vishnu and holds high importance in the Hindu mythology. On this day, the devotees of Lord Vishnu usually observe a waterless (Nirjala) fast. It is believed that fasting on this day makes all the wishes come true. In Jainism too, the day is considered beneficial for spirituality. Food items like onion, masoor dal, garlic, beans, grains and alcohols are abandoned as they are believed to be sinful foods. However, milk products and fruits are considered to be eaten during the day.
For the year 2026, we have listed the Ekadashi dates.
