South Indian Keerai Poriyal Recipe
Keerai Poriyal is a traditional South Indian recipe. It is also one of the most loved recipes in Tamil houses. This spinach/Keerai is the healthiest vegetable and has a high nutritional value too. To prepare this keerai poriyal recipe, you will need to add chilli powder and not sliced green chillies.
On the other hand, this keerai poriyal is also delicious and best served with hot white rice and dal. In most houses, people enjoy this vegetable spinach fry along with rasam. You can also add a spoon of ghee when the dish is done. Ghee adds more flavour to the spicy Keerai poriyal dish.
Here is how you prepare this yummy spinach fry recipe. Take a look:

Cooking Time: 15 minutes
All You Need
- Spinach - 1 bunch
- Onion - 100 gram (chopped)
- Garlic - 4 pieces (chopped)
- Mustard Seeds - 1 tbsp
- Red Chilli - 3
- Toor Dal - ½ cup
- Coconut - 1/2 cup (ground)
- Oil - 3 teaspoon
- Salt for taste

Procedure:
- In a kadai, pour in a little oil. Allow the oil to turn hot up over a medium flame. Once it is hot, add in the chopped onion and the mustard seeds. Saute the onions till it turns light brown in colour.
- When the onions are cooked, add in the garlic and red chilli. Now saute these ingredients for about 1 to 2 minutes.
- When this is done, add in the toor dal. Allow it to cook well over a medium flame. Allow it to cook well in the oil and other ingredients. Now add in the fresh chopped spinach and salt for taste. Saute these ingredients well for another 7 minutes.
- Once spinach is ready, add in the ground coconut, mix well and leave for a second to cook.
- Once it is done, switch the flame off and serve.

Nutrition Tip
Spinach is one of the best leafy vegetables to consume. It contains a high amount of Vitamin K which is good for women who are anemic.
Cooking Tip
Drop in the grated/ground coconut in the dish only after the spinach is cooked well. Make sure you leave no water remaining in the dish when done.
