Dal ki Biryani
Ingredients:
2 Cups Rice
1 Cup Tuvar Dal (Red Gram split)
2 Onions
1 tsp Jeera (Cumin Seeds)
1 tsp Haldi (Turmeric Powder)
1 tsp Red Chili powder
"' tsp Ginger paste
"' tsp Garlic paste
"' tsp Green chili paste
2 tbsp Butter
1 Big Tomato
2 Small Onions fried brown
1 Potato cubed and deep fried
Salt to taste
Whole Garam Masala (2 Cloves, 2 Cardamom, 2 piece Cinnamon, 4 Peppercorns)
1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
2 tbsp Coriander Leaves, Chopped
2 tbsp Pudina Leaves, Chopped
1 tbsp Ghee (Clarified Butter)
Method:
Soak Rice for "' an hour and cook till half done. Soak dal for 2 hrs and half cook with a of haldi. Heat ghee and add a tsp of jeera.
When it starts changing colour add the chopped onions and fry for sometime. Add red chilli powder, haldi, ginger paste, garlic paste and green chilli paste, and fry for sometime.
Now add chopped tomatoes and fry until the moisture evaporates. Now add the "' cooked tur dal, fried onions, whole garam masala, garam masala powder, potatoes, salt, chopped eparatel leaves and mix well.
In a kadai spread half the mixture and over this spread a layer of "' cooked rice. On this add some butter, sprinkle garam masala and chopped pudina leaves. Over this spread the other half of the mixture and on it spread the rice and add butter, garam masala and chopped coriander leaves.
Cook in a preheated oven for 10 mts. Or
Cook in a microwave oven for 4 mts. Or
Keep a tawa on direct flame and over it keep the kadai and cook for 20 mts.
