Janhvi Kapoor Chuttamalle Deepfake: Telugu Industry Urged To Unite Against AI

An AI-morphed video built on footage from the Chuttamalle song began spreading on X in early October, and by Saturday some of Telugu cinema's biggest names had spoken out. Jr NTR, Vijay Deverakonda and Chiranjeevi have each condemned the sexually explicit fake targeting actor Janhvi Kapoor, and each wants those behind it held to account. Here is what they said.

Jr NTR: A Warning To The Creators

Jr NTR, Janhvi Kapoor's co-star in Devara: Part 1, was among the first to respond, on Saturday, 3 October. He called the video "disgusting, sick and shameless" and said people using AI to disrespect a woman had fallen very low. His message to the creators was blunt: "I will not spare any of you."

He said legal action would follow against both those who made the clip and those who circulated it, urged fans not to watch, share or engage with it, and asked the Centre and state governments to bring in strict AI regulations. Janhvi Kapoor herself described the video as a clear misuse of AI in a post on X.

Vijay Deverakonda: Make An Example Of Them

Vijay Deverakonda reposted Jr NTR's statement and backed it, saying whoever is responsible should face the harshest legal consequences. He described the act as the "digital equivalent of sexual assault" and said the law must treat such cases with the utmost seriousness. He also pointed to the irony of AI, a technology many fear for its effect on jobs, being used to degrade people.

Chiranjeevi: A Support Cell And A Collective Stand

Chiranjeevi posted the most detailed response. He said he was "deeply disturbed" by AI being used to create degrading videos of a woman, calling such acts cruel, shameful and unacceptable. The issue, he stressed, is not about one person or one film. What happened to one woman today could happen to anyone, so staying silent is not an option, and those who create or deliberately spread such content must be held accountable under the law.

He also announced a plan of action. Chiranjeevi said he would take the matter to the Telugu Film Chamber, the Producers' Council and other industry bodies, and recommend a dedicated committee and support cell. Working with cybercrime authorities, the team would help those affected, coordinate removal of such content and pursue legal action. He urged the Centre and state governments to act too.

His own experience adds context. The Statesman reported that he had earlier filed a complaint with Hyderabad Cybercrime Police over AI-made obscene videos using his face.

Do Not Watch, Do Not Share

Jr NTR and Chiranjeevi both urged people to stay away from the video. Chiranjeevi went further, asking people not to watch, download or share it even to condemn it, and to report it to platforms and cybercrime authorities instead.

Readers can report such content on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at cybercrime.gov.in, or call the 1930 helpline.

Where Things Stand

No FIR or police case has been reported on this specific video, and its origin remains unclear. The row follows earlier cases, including Rashmika Mandanna speaking out about a deepfake made from her face.
