Chana Biryani Recipe For A Healthy Heart
Nowadays, you will find every other person suffering from some or the other problem related to the heart. The most hated part of this disease is the exemption from eating your favourite foods. Once you are diagnosed with heart ailment, the first thing the doctor prescribes is a strict diet. The diet food is not always that pleasing for most of us. So, what do we do to make the diet for the heart interesting?
We have a perfect solution for you in this regard. Kabuli chana or white chickpeas is an excellent food for heart patients. Regular consumption of Kabuli chana helps in lowering your cholesterol level and strengthening the heart muscles. Hence, we have a delicious biryani recipe for you which is prepared with white chickpeas. This recipe is prepared using minimal spices and very less oil. Since this biryani recipe is baked, all the essential nutrients are also perfectly preserved. The use of low fat milk and curd helps in keeping your blood pressure and cholesterol in check.

So, try out this mouthwatering vegetarian recipe of chana biryani and give your taste buds as well as your heart, a tasty and healthy treat.

Ingredients
For the rice
- Basmati rice- 2 cups (cooked)
- Mint leaves- 2tbsp (chopped)
- Coriander leaves- 3tbsp (chopped)
- Green chillies- 2 (chopped)
- Saffron- a pinch
- Low fat milk- ½ cup
- Oil- 1tsp
For the masala
- Kabuli chana (chickpeas)- 1 cup (soaked in water overnight)
- Ginger-garlic paste- 2tsp
- Turmeric powder- 1tsp
- Red chilli powder- ½ tsp
- Coriander powder- 1tsp
- Low fat yogurt- 1 cup
- Tomatoes- 3 (chopped)
- Potatoes- 2 (boiled and chopped)
- Salt- as per taste
- Oil- 1tbsp
- Water- 2 cups
Procedure
For the masala
- Soak the kabuli chana overnight or at least for 6 hours.
- Then boil the chana with water and salt in a pressure cooker. Wait for four whistles to blow.
- Once done, remove the cooker from flame and set it aside. Let it cool down completely.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add ginger-garlic paste and fry for a minute.
- Then add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and fry on medium heat for about 2 minutes.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook for 4-5 minutes.
- Then add the potatoes, green chillies, low fat yogurt and mix well.
- Let it cook for 5-6 minutes.
- Now add the boiled chana, salt and mix it well.
- Once done, switch off the flame and keep it aside.
Assembling the biryani
- Soak the saffron in the low fat milk and keep it aside.
- Mix the coriander leaves, mint leaves and green chillies with the cooked rice.
- Grease a baking tray with oil.
- Spread half of the rice on it forming the first layer.
- Next spread the kabuli chana gravy as the second layer.
- Then spread the rest of the rice as the third layer.
- Pour the saffron milk mixture over it.
- Then spread the rest of the gravy as the last layer.
- Cover the tray with an aluminium foil.
- Bake it in a pre-heated oven at 200 degrees centigrade for 20 minutes.
- Once done, remove the foil and serve.
Healthy and delicious chana biryani recipe is ready to be served. Serve it with a low fat curd raita.
