Bengali Style Gobi Malai Curry Recipe
Bengali recipes have a charm of their own. Be it fish or chicken or a simple vegetarian curry, the unique mix of spices lend the dish a distinct aroma and taste. Today we have a simple yet a sumptuous recipe of cauliflower straight from the Bong mom's kitchen.
The Bengali style gobi malai curry is cooked in a coconut milk gravy along with a mix of spices. The amount of the spices used in this dish is such that it does not affect the flavour of the coconut milk and yet makes this dish a treat for your senses.

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- Cauliflower- 1 (medium sized, florets detached)
- Onion paste- 2tbsp
- Ginger-garlic paste- 1tbsp
- Tomato puree- 2tbsp
- Green chilli paste- 1tsp
- Cumin powder- 1tsp
- Coriander powder- 1tsp
- Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
- Garam masala powder- ½ tsp
- Coconut milk- 1 cup
- Cumin seeds- 1tsp
- Salt- as per taste
- Oil- 2tbsp
- Coriander leaves- 2tbsp (chopped)
Procedure
1. Keep the cauliflower florets soaked in salt water for 10 minutes.
2. After that drain the salt water and keep it aside.
3. Heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan and fry the cauliflower florets on medium flame for about 5-6 minutes.
4. Once done, transfer the cauliflower to a plate and keep it aside.
5. Heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds. Fry for a minute.
6. Add the onion paste and fry on medium flame for 4-5 minutes.
7. Then add the ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, green chilli paste, cumin powder, coriander powder and cook for 3-4 minutes.
8. Then add in the tomato puree and cook for 2-3 minutes.
9. Now add the cauliflower florets, salt and coconut milk. Mix well.
10. Cover and cook for 5-6 minutes on low flame.
11. After that remove the lid and add garam masala powder.
12. Cook for another 2 minutes and then switch off the flame.
13. Garnish the dish with chopped coriander leaves.
The delicious Bengali style gobi malai curry is ready to be served. Enjoy this creamy delight with rotis or steamed rice.
