Indian Style Porridge For Breakfast
A porridge recipe is usually simple. You get some oats and cook it with some milk and you have a healthy breakfast recipe to go for you. However, this standard way is not the only method to make porridge. You can easily convert porridge into an Indian style sweet breakfast recipe. You need to add some simple Indian spices to the standard porridge recipe to transform it into something totally novel.
Most kids have one complain with porridge; it smells of raw milk. While some people like the smell of milk, it is also repulse to some people. This Indian style porridge masks the smell of the milk with some aromatic spices like cardamom and saffron. So, finally your porridge recipe will come out like kheer in both taste and looks but, it will be much healthier.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
- Oats- 1 cup (not instant oats)
- Milk- 1.5 cups
- Honey- 1tbsp
- Cardamom pods- 2
- Saffron- 1 pinch
- Almonds- 10 (chopped)
- Cashews- 5
- Ghee- 1tsp
- Raisins- 5
- Apple- 1/2 (chopped)
- Salt- 1 pinch
Procedure
1. Warm the ghee in a pan. Break the cardamom pods and remove the seeds from it.
2. Season the ghee with cardamom seeds. Add the almonds and cashew nuts. Saute for a minute.
3. Then pour the milk into the pan. Let it come to boil.
4. Then add the oats. You must not use instant oats but the normal one.
5. Cook the oats for 2-5 minutes depending on the cooking procedure mentioned in the cover.
6. Some oats cook faster than others so you have to read the cooking instructions carefully.
7. Do not overcook the oats. You need the texture to be nice and mushy.
8. When the oats are almost cooked, add a pinch of salt and saffron.
9. Stir well so that it is evenly dispersed. Add apples and raisins which the porridge.
10. Remove the porridge from the pan into serving bowls.
11. Pour honey as a topping.
