Irresistible Chicken Kassa Recipe
No matter how bad your day might have been, having a nice and spicy chicken curry can always brighten you up if you are a non vegetarian foodie. There are numerous chicken recipes in India. In every region chicken is cooked in different style. Today we have a traditional chicken recipe from Bengal. It is traditionally prepared with mutton but it tastes equally good with mutton as well.
Chicken kassa is a spicy chicken recipe which has a semi-gravy texture and looks extremely tempting. This Bengali chicken recipe is prepared with a lot of spices and curd. The most important part of this recipe is the masala which should be cooked very carefully and for a longer time. Kassa basically refers to cooking for a long time. Therefore you need time in your hands to prepare this chicken recipe. But without a doubt, chicken kassa is one of the best chicken recipe which you have ever tasted.

So, read on for the recipe of the irresistible chicken kassa and give it a try.

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Ingredients
Chicken- 500 gms (cut in medium sized pieces)
For marinade
- Curd- 1 cup
- Ginger-garlic paste- 1tsp
- Turmeric powder- 1tsp
- Red chillies- 5-6 (coarsely ground)
- Salt- as per taste
- Jeera powder- 2tsp
For Gravy
- Onions- 4 (finely chopped)
- Ginger-garlic paste- 1tsp
- Garlic- 5 pods (peeled)
- Tomato puree- 2tbsp
- Turmeric powder- 1tsp
- Red chillies- 4-5 (coarsely ground)
- Jeera powder- 3tsp
- Dhaniya powder- 1tsp
- Salt- as per taste
- Kashmiri red chilli powder- 1tsp
- Sugar- 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala powder- 1tsp
- Cinnamon- 1 stick
- Cloves- 4-5
- Green cardamom- 3-4
- Jeera (cumin) seeds- 1tsp
- Bay leaf- 1
- Coriander leaves- 2tsp (for garnish)
- Mustard oil- 2tbsp
Procedure
1. Wash the chicken pieces thoroughly with water.
2. Marinade the chicken pieces with all the ingredients mentioned under marinade for about 20 minutes.
3. After that heat mustard oil in a pan and add the cinnamon, cloves, green cardamoms, bay leaf and jeera seeds to it. Allow them to splutter.
4. Then add the chopped onions and fry for 4-5 minutes on medium flame.
5. Then add ginger garlic paste and fry for 2 minutes.
6. Mix the turmeric powder, coarsely ground red chillies, jeera powder, dhaniya powder, kashmiri red chilli powder and suagr together ina bowl with half a cup of water.
7. Add this mixture to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes. Then add the garlic pods.
8. Add in the tomato puree and cook for another 4-5 minutes.
9. Now add the marinated chicken pieces to the pan and cook on medium flame for 8-10 minutes till water evaporates completely.
10. Add salt and a cup of water to the pan. Cover and cook on low flame for another 8-10 minutes on low flame.
11. Once done, open the lid and add in the garam masala powder and mix well.
12. Switch off the flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
Chicken kassa is ready to be served. This spicy chicken recipe goes perfectly well with fried rice or pooris.
