October 31 marks the death anniversary of the "Iron Lady of India". Indira Gandhi, the former first female Prime Minister of India was assassinated on this day by her bodyguards in 1984 as a retaliation for military action at the Golden Temple for Operation Blue Star.

Gandhi, a brave politician and leader of the Congress party is credited for her notable work including the nationalisation of banks, encouraging foreign trade, liberalising imports, and cutting subsidies among others.
