Haircare: 5 Ways To Protect Your Hair From Lice
Hair lice is embarrassing, irritating and a problem in all senses. These pesky little insects are contagious and can spread easily through close contact, or sharing of hats, combs and other items.

Head lice is a pretty common problem, affecting both adults and children. The most common way you get head lice is through direct contact. This can happen if you come into contact with someone who has lice, or if you share items such as pillows, hats, brushes, or combs with someone who has lice.
Symptoms of lice infestation include itching, redness, and a tickling sensation in the hair and scalp [1].
5 Ways To Protect Your Hair From Lice
1. Use a lice comb
A fine-toothed comb designed specifically for lice can help remove lice and their eggs from the hair. After applying a conditioner or other lubricant to the hair, start at the scalp and comb through the entire length of the hair. Be sure to check for lice and eggs on the comb after each stroke.
2. Keep hair clean and brushed
Regular washing and brushing of the hair can help reduce the risk of lice. Lice feed on human blood, so they tend to thrive in dirty and unkempt hair.
3. Avoid sharing items that touch the hair
Sharing combs, brushes, hats, and other items that come into contact with the hair can spread lice. Encourage family members to use their own combs and brushes.

4. Use lice-prevention products
Many products like shampoos, sprays, and mousses are designed to help repel lice. These products can help protect against lice infestations, but they must be used as directed.
5. Check for lice regularly
Regularly inspecting the scalp and hair for signs of lice can help catch an infestation early, making treatment much easier. Check for lice on a weekly basis, paying close attention to areas behind the ears and at the nape of the neck.
Note...
Moreover, it is important to also clean any items that may have been shared with someone who has lice. This means washing items such as pillows, hats, brushes and combs in hot water and drying them on the highest heat setting. Vacuuming carpets and upholstered furniture can also help prevent the spread of lice.

On A Final Note...
It is important to check for lice on a regular basis, especially if someone has been in contact with someone who has lice. If lice are found, treatment should begin immediately to help prevent the spread of lice to other family members.
