7 Types Of Water That Causes Hairfall

During winter, many of us complain about severe hair fall and dryness of hair. We assume the cause for hair fall and dryness could be rough weather, chemical hair products etc. So, we try to fix the problem of hair fall by spending a fortune on hair care products or home remedies to get the best results.

If you have already burnt your pocket on expensive hair treatments, yet your hair fall is persistent then identifying the problem becomes very necessary. This could possibly be the water that you use to wash your hair.

So, finding out the type of water you use to wash your hair is important as it could be the cause for hair fall and dryness. If the water you use is hard water or contains high amount of chlorine, then there are more chances of you facing hair fall.

Ill Effects Of Hard Water

Some of the types of water that harms your hair and scalp are:

1. Chlorine water
Chlorine is a chemical disinfectant and oxidiser which when added to water in right amount does not damage the hair. But, will definitely cause dryness to the hair if exposed to chlorine water on regular basis. For instance, swimming pools are bound to have chlorine in order to keep the pool water clean. Thus, it is advisable to wear head caps while swimming.

2. Hard water
Hard water contains high amount of magnesium, calcium, silica and high amount of dissolved minerals. It causes dryness, breakage and thinning of hair. Silica content in hard water also causes dandruff and chokes hair follicle resulting in hair fall.

3. Salt water

The moisture content present in our hair gets removed by salt water. It highly causes dryness and brittle hair which causes breakage. The drying effect of salt water is high in nature and causes permanent hair loss leading to balding.

4. Desalinated water
Desalinated water, majorly used in Far East Countries for drinking purpose is prepared by removing salt content from the sea water. However, it is considered to be bad for hair as it contains high amount of chlorine and sodium. Usage of this water causes the hair to become frizzy, brittle and dryness especially at the roots of your hair.

5. Rain water
Rain water though is considered good for hair wash in many parts of the world assuming it to have mystical benefits. It is also considered to be soft water but, still has flaws when comes to hair wash. Due to high air pollution, rain water leaves the hair frizzy and dry. Apart from that acid rain is also considered to be very harmful for your hair.

6. Surface water

Surface water is pumped from either a river or lake. Surface water contains less amount of minerals and are found to be exposed to the environment and pollution causing bacteria growth. Thus, chlorine and lime are added to curb bacteria. But, since both the chemicals have drying effects it causes major dryness and hair fall.

7. Ground water
Ground water is derived from rain water that passes through the layers of the earth and settles beneath the ground. High amount of minerals like iron and magnesium that are found in the soil can also be found in ground water. These minerals causes excessive dryness of hair and lack of luster.

Human hair have natural moisturiser, proteins called keratin and melanin which gives colour to the hair. However, with the changing trends we experiment on our hair with harmful chemicals and colouring which causes permanent damage and if the water we use have chemicals then it will surely add to the woes. Hence it is very important to keep our hair healthy by using natural products, pampering your hair with regular oil massages and inculcating healthy eating & drinking habits.
