How To Prevent Nails From Breaking
Broken nails are not only painful physically, but also painful emotionally, for most of the women. Here are some ways by which you can prevent them from breaking.
When your nails start to peel, crack or curl, it is not less than a disaster in itself! However, cracking and splitting of the nails due to a specific reason is fine; but if your nails crack, split and break more often, then you must make sure to take precautionary measures.
According to studies, it is said that nails can crack, split or break quite often due to three main reasons. It may crack due to over exposure to nail polish, long exposure to water or chemicals or due to the ageing factor.

However, cracking and splitting of the nails can happen due to various medical conditions as well. It may be associated with some diseases like psoriasis, anaemia, lichen planus, eczema, endocrine disorders, fungal infection, etc. If you are dealing with cracked and split nails, here is how you can treat them with some simple home remedies. Read on.

1. Tea Tree Oil
Being a powerful antiseptic and antibacterial agent, tea tree oil can help prevent the breaking and splitting of nails. It also proves to be beneficial in treating discoloured nails. Take 3-4 drops of tea tree oil and add an equal amount of olive oil to it. Mix both the oils and massage your nails with this. Leave it for some time and wash off after 30 minutes. This will help to keep your nails moisturised and hydrated for a long period of time, thus preventing breakage of nails.

2. Olive Oil
Massaging your nails for 15 minutes with lukewarm olive oil can help to treat brittle and cracked nails. This is one of the inexpensive nail treatments that helps to prevent the peeling and cracking up of nails. If not olive oil, you can massage your hands and nails with any vegetable oil and leave it overnight. Repeat doing this for atleast for a week to alleviate dryness from nails.

3. Vitamin E Oil
Due to lack of moisture and vitamins in the body, it can make your nails weak and brittle. Vitamin E oil helps to keep your nails hydrated and moisturised, thus preventing your nails from becoming dry and brittle. Take one vitamin E capsule and extract its oil. Now, massage the nails with Vitamin E oil for 10 minutes. Leave it overnight and repeat the process every day

4. Apple Cider Vinegar
Another good and effective remedy that can help to treat brittle nails is using apple cider vinegar. Because of rich nutrients, vitamins, iron and calcium present in the apple cider vinegar, it can help to fight against nail infection and prevent over dryness on nails. Mix an equal amount of water and apple cider vinegar. Now, soak your nails in this solution for 10 minutes and moisturise your nails using a cream.

5. Coconut Oil
Due to antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties found in coconut oil, it can help to nourish weak and brittle nails. Slightly warm some coconut oil and massage your nails with this. Repeat this remedy for two times in a day to see improved results soon. You can also make a mixture of coconut oil and lemon and massage your nails with this.

6. Consume Biotin-rich Foods
For people who are dealing with dry, weak and brittle nails including biotin-rich food in the diet is the best option. You should include avocado, cooked eggs, whole grain food, etc., in the diet, so that it can help to nourish and strengthen your nails. You can also include biotin supplements in your daily diet to nourish your brittle nails.

7. Use Cuticle Cream
Cuticle cream is a very important product that helps to keep your nails moisturised and nourished. A good quality cuticle cream contains a high quantity of Vitamin E oil, which helps to keep your nails hydrated throughout the day. Massage your nails with some cuticle cream before going to bed and leave it overnight. Generally, cuticles tend to get dried due to a prolonged exposure to washing, excessive dryness and over-working. So, it is always good to protect your nails with cuticle cream.

8. Avoid Excessive Use Of Nail Polish Remover
You should prevent using nail polish and nail polish remover quite frequently. Nail paint and nail paint remover contain a high amount of alcohol and acetone that can help to dry and damage your nails. You should reduce using them quite often in order to maintain your nails healthy and prevent damage.

9. Hydration
You should drink lots of water, as this is the only natural remedy that can help to benefit your body as well as your nails. Drinking water can help to not only hydrate your body and nails, but it can also benefit you with radiant-looking skin and healthy hair.
