Sugar Scrubs To Transform Your Winter Skin!

Energize, exfoliate and nourish your skin this winter with sugar scrubs!

When we think of sugar, invariably, our brain screams - calories, weight gain, fat and flabs! If you flip the coin, and see on the other side, you will realise, sugar scrubs can do more than add on to your waist, it can do a whole lot of good too!

For instance, it can exfoliate dead skin layers, boost blood circulation, promote skin regeneration and allow the skin to absorb moisture better! All this at the fraction of the prices you spend in a fancy spa!

Before we get on to sugar scrub recipes, there are a few skin care rules, you need to diligently follow, especially during winter.

Even though hot water bath sounds like heaven, stick to lukewarm bath. Hot water strips your skin of its natural oil, leaving it excessively dry. Lukewarm on the other hand, boosts blood flow, relaxes muscles, without drying out your skin!

Switch your light lotion, with heavier formula, for added skin nourishment. Just because its winter, and the sun is well in hiding, is no reason for you to skip your sunscreen.

Other than that, here are tips on how to remove dead skin cells using sugar!

Body Scrub

  • Mash 1 banana into a smooth pulp, add half a cup of brown sugar and a teaspoon of almond oil.
  • Mix the contents together, until you get the desired abrasion.
  • Slightly dampen your body skin and lather the sugar scrub for dry skin all over.
  • Scrub in circular motion for 5 minutes and rinse it off with lukewarm water.
  • Follow it up with a nourishing lotion.

Lips Exfoliator

  • Take a tablespoon of olive oil and mix in half a tablespoon of sugar.
  • Mix it until you get a gritty consistency.
  • Coat a toothbrush with the concoction and exfoliate your lips gently with it.
  • Do this for about 2 minutes and rinse it clean.
  • Your lips will be lush, pink and soft.

Prep Your Skin Before Shaving

  • Take a tablespoon of brown sugar, dampen it with a few drops of water.
  • Work it on your legs and scrub it for a minute or so.
  • Rinse off with cold water and pat dry.
  • Go on with your usual shaving routine.
  • It will give your skin an incredibly close shave, plus make it silky smooth!

Sugar Scrub Cubes

  • Take a tablespoon of coco butter, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and half a cup of sugar along with a few drops of peppermint oil and lavender oil.
  • Heat all the ingredients together, except the sugar on low flame.
  • Once the ingredients melt, turn off the flame and allow it to cool to room temperature.
  • Add in the sugar and keep stirring for the ingredients to combine well.
  • Press the concoction in an ice tray and place it in the refrigerator to solidify.
  • Take the tray out and using a spoon remove the scrub cubes, store it in an air tight container and use it as and when required.

Foot Scrub

  • Take a tablespoon of brown sugar, add a teaspoon of orange peel powder, a teaspoon of cinnamon powder and 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  • Mix all the ingredients together until you get a gritty paste.
  • Dampen your feet and scrub it rigorously with the concoction.
  • Do this for five minutes and then rinse it off with cold water.
  • Follow it up with a nourishing lotion.

Scalp Scrub

  • Take 2 tablespoons of your regular conditioner, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, and half a cup of grounded oatmeals with a few drops of peppermint oil.
  • Mix all the ingredients together until they blend well.
  • Dampen your hair thoroughly with water, apply the scrub and gently exfoliate using the soft bud of your finger.
  • Do this for 5 minutes and then rinse it out thoroughly with plain water.
