The Curse On King Dasaratha In Ramayana
Right from our birth to the age we are at, we have been listening and watching too the dramatic visuals, the story of our holy ancestors in the name of ‘Ramayana’. I too have grown watching the serial-“Sampoorna Ramayan” made by Ramanand Sagar, the uncrowned king of religious and historical serials and films. Do you know about dasaratha curse story? Read more to find out.
Whenever anyone talks about the ‘Ramayana’, there is an obvious talk of lord Rama-Sita and Laxmana and often Lord Hanumana too, but hardly ever anyone talks of other characters and related stories with them.
WHY LORD RAM SENTENCED LAKSHMANA TO CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
Let’s talk about something else in ‘Ramayana’ this time. You must have heard about Maharaja Dashratha. Yes lord Rama’s father. He was a great king himself.

King Dashratha, the ruler of Magadha, was son of Aja and Indumati and belonged to ‘Raghunansh’. As a ruler, he always helped his people to grow and spread happiness in their life. He had all the qualities of the best king possible and thus, his state’s people too loved him a lot.

But once in his young age, he made a big blunder. At that time, he was the crowned prince. He was very fond of hunting and that too by assuming the sound and movement of his hunt. Once he went for a hunt in a nearby jungle. Suddenly he heard some hustle around the bank of river sarayu. He aimed against the sound and summoned his arrow to hit the hunt. The arrow did hit the hunt but the hunt this time it was a boy who had come to the river to take water for his old blind parents, the name was Shrawan Kumar, a highly dedicated son and the only support to the blind old couple. He had worshiped his parents throughout his life and now was taking them for some religious tour.

When King Dashratha reached the bank of the river, he got stunned to find him almost dead. Shrawan Kumar with great difficulty asked the king to take some water for his blind parents and directed him the way to his parents and died.
King Dashratha reached the old couple who was waiting for their obliged son having no clue that their only son was not going to turn up again in any way. When they heard the sound of king’s feet towards them, they thought him to be his son.

The king then with apology of his deed, told them of the accident. It gave a huge shock to the old blind couple. And that was the moment when Shrawan’s father pronounced a curse on king Dashratha that- “O king, you have killed our only son and the only support to our blind world, the way I am dying today in the remembrance of my son, in the same way, you too will die in the memories of you son.”
And this curse turned out to be reality when his son lord Rama went to Jungle. The king died in remembrance of his son Rama.
I think many of you would have heard of the story, but it’ll be my luck if someone got to know this for the first time through me, about Maharaja Dashratha.
