The term Paryanka would mean a bed, sofa or a couch. In this asana, the body appears like a couch and hence the name 'Paryankasana'. This asana is the continuation of Supta paryankasana.

.Sit in paryankasana

.Breathe out and lie on the back.

.Lift the neck and the chest and by arching the back, place only the crown of the head on the floor. No other part of the trunk should be on the floor.

.Bend the arms at the elbow and hold the right upper arm near the elbow with the left hand and the left upper arm near the elbow with the right hand. Rest the folded hands behind the head on the floor.

.Stay in the pose for a minute breathing evenly.
