Sarvangasana: Shoulder stand
Next to Sirshasana - headstand, Sarvangasana is considered to be one of the best asanas. It is also called as the Mother of all asanas. This is an inverted posture and must not be practiced alone till it is mastered.
Step 1: Lie on your back with hands by your side. Palms facing downwards.
Step2: Lift both legs together to 90 degrees, as in Ardha Halasana Keep your knees straight.
Step 3: Keeping your legs straight, slowly lift your hips from the ground. Support your back with your palms. Keep your elbows on the ground
Step 4: Go on lifting your body upwards, as high as possible, till your weight completely rests on your shoulders. Move your palms to support your mid-back.
Step 5: Maintain the body in a straight line. Do not sway, forward or backward in this postion. Hold for 10-30 seconds. Breathe normally in this posture.
