What Is Bhumi Pujan? Why Should We Do It?
Bhumi pujan is a ritual that is conducted to placate Mother earth and vastu purush. The five chief elements governing the land are also worshipped in a ritual called Neev pujan.
Bhumi or the earth puja should be performed in the north east corner of the site as puja should be done to the place which has to be dug first, for the purposes of construction. Land has to be dug in the North east direction first, Bhumi pujan is done for two reasons, one for building a residence and the other for tilling of the land.

How Is The Pujan Done? A 64 component diagram is drawn that represents Vastu purusha and worshipped with Kumkum. Each component has a governing deity attached to it.
Mantras and pujas are performed to every deity Then a pit is dug, and the first brick laid on it. Usually, panchang is referred for fixing the muhurat. Always it is advisable to choose the best astrologer in town for the matters of the land as your horoscope has an intricate connection with the land you are digging to build your house.
The horoscope has to be analysed and an ideal muhurta has to be determined. Before beginning construction, the foundation stone has to be laid. According to scriptures and Vastu rules, the ideal months for Bhumi puja are the Baishakh, Shravan, Margshirsh, Magh, Falgun, Bhadrapad, and Kartik.
The benefits:
Before we visit someone for getting our work done through them, we give them gifts, and then please them in every way. Similarly, when we are building a residential dwelling for our own use on mother earth, we must first please her, the deity of directions vastu purusha and finally the five primordial elements of nature.
While we construct the house, we may unknowingly harm several living beings like insects, worms etc inside the soil. So asking forgiveness from them is a must in order to avoid their curses and the side effects of their pain and tears on us as we set out constructing on the land.
This puja protects the land or the building and its members from all accidental mishaps. The puja placates the mother earth who in turn eliminates vastu doshas and other negative energies that may be residing around the plot.
It not only dispels the negative energies, but also purifies the place, and invites good luck to the area of dwelling, to benefit the family members.
