Viliyaathu nirkum pali
Lusting after the neighbour's wife, because it is easy,Would lead only to lasting disgrace.
Such disreputable liaison invariably ends up in sin and shame, for which there is no end.
This idea finds mention in Naladiar 84 thus.
'Kaalil kudi paliyaam'
In Kambaramayanam, too, the same sentiments are expressed in the following verse.
Aasil para thaaramavai yanjchirai yadaipaem
Maasil puhal kaadhaluruvaem valamai koorap
Paesuvadhu maanam idai paenuvadhu kaamam
Koosuvadhu maanidarai nanru nama kottram
( Kamba Ramayanam-Mantram: 52 )
The following lines of the Bible on the man who commits adultery are relevant here.
'A wound and dishonour shall he get and his
reproach shall not be wiped away'.
(proverbs 6:33)
