Only those, who have given up all desire, have truly renounced;
The rest surely have not renounced adequately
The idea is that renunciation is a purposeless exercise unless it is absolute.
The ceremonial giving up of external attachment to some things, is not good enough. What is really essential is the full renunciation of the basic or underlying desires. Only such giving up can be true renunciation. The line adopted here is in keeping with Manakudavar"s interpreation in preference to Parimelalagar"s
