Hasanamba Temple: This Temple Of Miracles Opens Only For A Week In A Year

Hassan was earlier known as Sihmasanapuri which later changed to Hassan. Hasanamba Temple is one of the most famous temples that is dedicated to Goddess Shakti. Hasanamba Jatra Mahotsava is a famous festival in Hassan that is held during Deepavali in October month.

The Hasanamba temple opens only in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner for only twelve days every year during Deepavali. The visiting time of the temple then is 7 AM to 10 PM, and 3 PM to 10:00 PM.

Devotees from across Maharashtra and other South Indian states visit in huge numbers to avail her blessings. After the darshan concludes for that week in the year, two bags of rice, flowers., lit diyas. and water are left inside the temple.

A ghee Akhand diya burns all the time up till the time of reopening for the next year. The lamp does not turn off and the rice bags do not get spoilt for the entire year. Flowers remain fresh and the lamp will always be burning.

Legends: when sapta Maatruka devis descended on earth from their abode, they found Hassan the most conducive place to settle in. Three of these matrukas settled in three anthills inside the temple and the other three decided to stay in three wells in Devigere Honda.

Constructed before 12th century in the Hoysala form of Architecture, it houses an anthill inside that comprises three of the presiding deities.

One of the most unusual things about the temple is an image of Ravana from Ramayana which shows nine heads and playing the veena.. Siddeshwara Swamy idol which is stationed at the entrance, appears like Lord Shiva which really provides an unusual visual.

Miracles and Beliefs: Hasanamba grants riches to everyone and she is the most benevolent goddess ever, as per devotees who have experienced her kindness. She is also harsh on people who mean harm to her devotees.

One of her devotees had a serious complaint against her mother-in-law who used to torture her inhuman.
Hasanamba heard the prayers of the daughter in law and turned the mother-in-law in to stone as she displayed a heart of stone towards her daughter in law.

It was her karma that turned her into stone. It is said that this stone is slowly moving towards Devi an inch by a year, and when the stone reaches the feet of the goddess, Kaliyuga is to end.

At Kallappa Gudi, one can spot four stones which were once robbers who tried robbing the jewellery of an idol and then turned into stones due to Devi's curse.
