Ganesh Chaturthi 2026: Celebrity Tarot Card Reader Ayush Gupta Shares Ganapati Puja Do’s And Don’ts
Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is a time when devotees welcome Lord Ganesha with prayers, traditional offerings and heartfelt devotion. While different families and regions may follow their own customs during the festival, the essence of Ganpati Puja remains rooted in faith and sincerity. Oorjaguru Ayush Gupta, Celebrity Tarot Card Reader & Spiritual Guide, shares the key do's and don'ts to keep in mind while performing Ganpati Puja, along with the rituals that can make the worship more meaningful.
The Spiritual Guide says, "Ganpati Puja is not only about following a long list of rituals. At its core, it is about creating a positive and devotional atmosphere and seeking Ganesha's blessings for wisdom, clarity and the removal of obstacles. For me, the most important part of Ganpati Puja is the emotion and intention behind it. Rituals are important, but they should be performed with understanding and genuine faith."
Do's During Ganpati Puja
1. Begin With Cleanliness And The Right Intention
Before starting the puja, clean the place where Ganpati ji will be installed. Traditionally, taking a bath and wearing clean clothes is considered auspicious. More importantly, enter the puja with a calm mind. Taking a moment to settle your thoughts before beginning is just as important as cleaning the space.
2. Establish The Idol Respectfully
Place the idol on a clean, raised platform, preferably facing east or west, depending on the tradition being followed. The idol should be placed with respect and devotion rather than being treated only as a decorative centrepiece.
3. Start With A Clear Sankalp
Before beginning the main rituals, take a simple sankalp and state your intention for the puja. It could be for wisdom, peace, family harmony, success or simply gratitude. Sankalp does not always mean asking for something. It is about clearly placing your intention before Ganpati ji.
4. Offer Traditional Items With Devotion
Durva grass, flowers, modak, fruits, incense and a diya are commonly offered to Lord Ganesha. Durva and modak hold a particularly important place in Ganpati worship. What matters most is the devotion with which these offerings are made.
5. Recite Ganesha Mantras
You can chant 'Om Gan Ganapataye Namah' with focus and devotion. Those who are familiar with the Ganapati Atharvashirsha can also include it in their puja.
6. Perform Aarti And Seek Forgiveness
Complete the puja with aarti and prayer. It is also customary to seek forgiveness for any mistakes or omissions during the worship. In Bhagwan ki pooja, perfection is not as important as sincerity.
Don'ts During Ganpati Puja
1. Don't Treat The Puja Only As A Social Or Decorative Event
"Celebration is an important part of Ganeshotsav, but we should not allow the spiritual purpose of the festival to get lost in the noise and festivities."
2. Don't Argue Or Create Unnecessary Negativity Around The Puja
Try to maintain a peaceful and positive environment, especially during the main rituals. When Ganpati ji is welcomed into a home, the atmosphere of that home should also reflect positivity and peace.
3. Don't Worry Excessively About Minor Ritual Mistakes
There are different traditions and regional practices when it comes to Ganpati Puja. If you accidentally miss a step, there is no need to panic. Pray sincerely and continue with faith.
4. Don't Treat Offerings Simply As Decoration
Food and other offerings should be placed respectfully before Ganpati ji and distributed properly as prasad after the puja.
5. Don't Compromise On Environmental Responsibility
If you are bringing home a Ganpati idol, choosing a natural clay idol and following responsible immersion practices is preferable. Our devotion towards Ganesha should also reflect our respect for nature.
Embracing The Spirit Of Ganesh Chaturthi 2026
As devotees prepare to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi 2026, keeping the focus on faith, sincerity and positivity can make Ganpati Puja a more meaningful experience. While rituals and traditions hold their own importance, Oorjaguru Ayush Gupta reminds devotees that genuine devotion matters just as much as following every step perfectly. Welcoming Lord Ganesha with a peaceful heart, respectful worship and a positive intention can help capture the true spirit of the festival.
