Durga Puja 2023: Ashtottara Shatanamavali of Goddess Durga, 108 Names With Mantra To Chant
Durga means the female form of the supreme being. She symbolises power and is one of the most popular Goddesses in the Hindu religion, She was created by the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, to combat the buffalo demon Mahishasura.
The supreme power, she was created with a combination of powers from all other Gods. She is known to ensure the creation, preservation, and destruction of evil forces in the universe.

As per the ancient scriptures, Lord Shiva wanted to please Mother Goddess Durga, and therefore, he called her 108 names. In a Purana called Devi Mahatmyam or Devi Mahatmya, which means the glory of Goddess, the story of Goddess Durga's battle with demon king Mahishasura has been depicted as Her victory over evil.
Sage Markandeya, composed this Hindu scripture in 400-500 CE in the Sanskrit language and it is also known as Durga Saptashat or simply the Chandi. Therefore, during Navratri or Durga Puja, devotees utter 108 names of the Goddess in their prayers to please the Goddess and seek her blessings.
