Garbharakshambika Mantras To Chant
Here's all that you need to know about the Goddess who protects the unborn child - Garbharakshambika. Read here to know more.
The word Garbharakshambika translates to the 'Mother who protects the unborn child'. In the state of Tamil Nadu, there is a place known as Papanashanam.
Tirukavugaur is a small Taluk, where the Garbharakshambikai temple exists. Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva reside in this temple as Garbharakshambikai and Mullivana Nathar.
Garbharakshambikai is one of the most important forms of Shakti who is worshipped in Tamil Nadu. It is believed that the Goddess protects the unborn child and helps it grow healthy. It is also a popular notion that the Goddess blesses couples who long for children with offsprings.
The Story Of Garbharakshambika
Once upon a time, there lived a Sage named Nidhruva. He lived in an ashram with his wife Vedhika. They were childless and after a lot of prayers, Goddess Parvati blessed the couple with a pregnancy. The pregnancy progressed in a healthy fashion until the third trimester.
In the third trimester, Sage Nidhruva left to visit Lord Varuna. He was to return soon, therefore, he left his wife alone in the ashram. Vedhika was tired due to the chores and other work and had laid down to rest.
At that time, a sage named Urdhavapada arrived at the ashram. Unaware of Vedhika's pregnant state, he became angry at the inhospitable reaction he received. He cursed Vedhika that she would be afflicted by the dreaded disease called Rayatchu.
The disease not only affected Vedhika but also began eating up the unborn child. Vedhika realised this and prayed to Goddess Parvati. Goddess Parvati appeared and kept the unborn child in a divine pot until it was ready to be born.
The child was born and the baby boy was named Naidhruvan. He received the blessings from Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The holy cow, Kamadhenu, fed the child its milk. Sage Nidhruva was overwhelmed by the mercy of the Goddess and prayed to both Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati to stay back in that place.
This way, they stayed at Tirukavugar as Garbharakshambikai and Mullaivana Nathar and protect their devotees like they protected Vedhika. And in this way, every woman in need of help can worship the goddess and earn her grace.
