Hanuman & The Fish
According to the most popular version of Ramayana by sage Valmiki, once Lord Hanuman was taking bath in a river. Due to the heat generated in His body, His semen passed out into the water. It travelled to the a fish like creature called Makar and she conceived a baby. Later, the cousins of Ravana, Ahiravana and Mahiravana found a half monkey and half fish like baby by the banks of the river. Thus, Makardhwaja was born.

Makardhwaja: A Valiant Warrior
According to Ramayana told by Valmiki, when Ahiravana took Rama and Lakshmana to Patala, Hanuman followed them to their rescue. He was challenged at the gate of Patala by a creature, who was part monkey and part reptile - a Makara. He introduced himself Makardhwaja and son of Hanuman, the mighty warrior.

Hanuman In For A Shock
Hanuman was amused to hear the creature and said that He was Hanuman and He was a celibate for life. However, Hanumana then closed his eyes in dhyan to see the events described above of Makardhwaja's birth. Hanuman hugged His son and Makardhwaja sought His blessings.

A Loyal Guard
Hanuman asked Makardhwaja to let Him pass as He had to rescue Ram and Lakshman from the clutches of the demons. But Makardhwaja didn't allow Him to pass even after knowing that Hanuman was His father. He could not defy his master Ahiravana. He instead gave Hanuman a riddle to solve which would guide Him to the door where Ram and Lakshman were held captive.

Macchanu
In the Cambodian and Thai versions of the Ramayana, Lord Hanuman's son is known as Macchanu who was born out of the union of Lord Hanuman and Ravana's mermaid daughter, Suvannamaccha. In some versions, it is the same story of the semen travelling through water but instead of a Makara it is the mermaid daughter of Ravana, Suvannamaccha. While in other versions it is said that Hanuman fell in love with Suvannamaccha while building the bridge to Lanka, they united and the mermaid had His baby named Macchanu.

Son Meets Father
As per Thai and Cambodian versions of Ramayana, during one of the battles withRavana's army, Hanuman encounters one powerful opponent, who looked likevanara from waist-up but had tail of a fish. After a fierce battle, as Hanuman was about to hit the creature with his weapons, a golden star shining in the sky above, reveals by way of aakashwani that the enemy, whom he is going to harm is his own son born by his union withSuvannamaccha, themermaiddaughter of Ravana. Hanuman, immediately holds his weapons in mid-air and father-son duo recognize each other.
