Significance Of Wearing Flowers On Hair
Women wearing flowers on their head is a common sight in India, especially in South India. Every morning, the women religiously put on the flower strands on their head after a bath. These flower strands definitely make the women look beautiful. But have you ever wondered why the women wear the flowers on their hair without fail, everyday? Let us find out.
Flowers have a deeper meaning than just being beautiful to look at. Every flower has its own set of qualities attached to it. Flowers are a symbol of love, good luck, happiness and prosperity. When a woman wears the flower on her hair, it is believed that it will bring happiness to her household.

Usually we see women wearing white jasmine flowers on their hair. But other than jasmine, it is a practice to put rose, marigold, hibiscus, violets on hair too. Let us take a look at the significance of wearing flowers on hair.

Different Flowers
Every flower has a different meaning attached to it. Here are a few flowers which are usually worn by women.
Jasmine: Jasmine is known as the queen of flowers because of its breathtaking fragrance. It is also called the God's own flower as no festival is deemed complete without using jasmine flowers. It is a mark of prosperity and good luck. Hence women usually wear jasmine flowers on hair.
Rose: Rose is the symbol of love and passion. It is also a mark of mourning for loved ones. So, a girl wearing rose on hair may symbolise her passion in life or the memory of a lost one.
Chrysanthemums: These beautiful flowers signify happiness. So, if a girl wears chrysanthemum on her hair then she is said to bring happiness to her family.
Violets: If a girl wears a string of violets then it is said that she will bring good luck.
Hibiscus: It is the symbol of strength since hibiscus is used in the worship of Goddess Kali and other forms of Shakti.
Significance Of Flowers
The language of flowers is quite ancient. Every culture in India has attached a different meaning to the flowers and women wearing these flowers. In India, a girl is supposed to wear flowers on her hair because it brings happiness to the family and prosperity to all the members. It is the symbol that Goddess Lakshmi is residing in the house and that wealth will never leave the house.
Hence, wearing flowers is not only a way to beautify oneself, it is a mark of well-being of the family.
