The Golu Devta Chitai temple, dedicated to Golu Devta or Goljyu Devta who is an Avtar (incarnation) of Lord Shiva in the form of Gaur Bhairav, is located at Almora. It is widely known to fulfil any righteous wish that is asked from him.
The temple is located in a charming locale that is rich in deodar and pine vegetation. Also you can see a large number of bells and stamp papers tied to the panel of the temple.

Those who could not get justice in the courts will be awarded justice here. The famous temple of Almora 'Chitai Devta Mandir' is devoted to a Gollu Devata, an element of Gaur Bhairav.
Rituals Followed Here: People here write their wishes and prayers on a piece of paper and tie them in a temple and when the wishes are fulfilled, they tie bells to reciprocate the divine favour.
Chitai Golu Devta Temple is also believed to bestow a happy marital life for seven births to a newlywed couple who visit this temple.
Lord Golu temples are located elsewhere in India as well.It exudes a unique feel as this temple follows totally different rituals and practices. Inside the temple, you can find the statue of Golu Devata riding a horse and carrying bow and arrow.
Golu Devta's Benevolence: Even today, Golu devta always travels everywhere in his kingdom to observe if people are happy in his kingdom. In the Golu darbar, Golu Dev hears the problem of every individual. He followed celibacy when he was alive.
Every year, the devotees hold Jagar Puja which lasts for 3 or 9 days and present offerings in the name of Golu devta. Golu Devta offered with a white cloth and white shaal. Some devotees offer the bhog of ghee, milk etc to him while others offer him bells and meat of the goat that is sacrificed
Legend: Now let us unfold Chitai Golu Devtas life history. Once up on a time, there was a king by name Jalraj who went on a hunting expedition where he spotted a beautiful damsel and married her finally.
She was his favourite queen and soon gave birth to a baby boy when Jalraj had gone out on some work.
Other queens sedated her and put a pumpkin in the place of the child and set the child afloat in the river Gori Ganga.
A childless fisherman who saw the child floating towards him picked up the child and raised him all by himself. He called the baby boy Golu.
Some years later, Golu just visited the area where his step mothers were bathing and asked them to move aside so that his wooden horse could drink water.
The queens laughed and asked him why. Golu replied "If a queen could deliver a pumpkin instead of a baby, even a wooden horse can drink water from a pool. The king, hearing this was happy that he got back his boy and invited Golu to the palace whereafter he became a general in the army of his father.
After his father's demise, he became the king, ruled impartially and then died. He was looked upon as a god of justice thereafter. All the bell and stamp paper practices started in due time.
