About Yamaganda Kalam?

Yamagand Kalam is similar to Rahu Kaal and is believed to have a negative impact on an individual on that particular timing of the day. In simple terms, Yamagandam is known as ‘death time’ and only death ceremonies are said to be performed during that time. Performing other activities like marriages, house warmings, inaugurations, journeys, sales, interviews or any business during Yamagand may invite negative energies to that particular work, which results in failure or obstruction in the way of that particular task.

Ketu Kalam or Yamagand Kalam goes by the same story of the birth of Rahu Kala. The story says that Lord Vishnu during the Samudra Manthan tricked demons for the ‘nectar of immortality’ or ‘Amrit’ in disguise of a beautiful woman. Later, the trap was noticed by a demon named ‘Swarbhanu’, who was beheaded by the Lord Vishnu as he managed to drink a few drops of the nectar by fooling him in disguise of one of the Gods to whom he was serving the nectar.

After the incident, the head of Swarbhanu was named as ‘Rahu’ while the torso was named as ‘Ketu’. Like Rahu Kala, Yamagand or Ketu Kala also shows its negative effect for one and half hours in a day and brings bad results to the doer.

Ketu is also considered as a shadow planet similar to Rahu. It is to be noted that every planet of the solar system has been given a day, unlike Rahu and Ketu. This shows that instead of ruling a particular day, Rahu and Ketu are known to affect people every day at their particular timings.

As the sunrise and sunset timings are never the same for any two locations, that’s why the Yamagand Kalam duration and timings vary from place to place. Yamagand Kaal is calculated by dividing the time duration between sunrise and sunset into 8 segments. For eg. let the sunrise be at 6:00 am and sunset at 6:00 pm. The difference between them is 12 hours. On dividing these hours into 8 segments, the result is 1.5 hours each. Thus, every day, Yamagand Kalam shows its effect for 1.5 hours which varies according to the day, muhurat and the sunrise and sunset timings.

1st muhurat (6:00 am to 7:30 pm), 2nd muhurat (7:30 am to 9:00 am), 3rd muhurat (9:00 am to 10:30 am), 4th muhurat (10:30 am to 12:00 pm), 5th muhurat (12:00 pm to 1:30 pm), 6th muhurat (1:30 pm to 3:00 pm), 7th muhurat (3:00 pm to 4:30 pm), 8th muhurat (4:30 pm to 6:00 pm), if the sunrise is 6:00 am and sunset is 6:00 pm.

On any Monday, Yamagand Kalam falls on 4th muhurat, Tuesday on 3rd muhurat, Wednesday on 2nd muhurat, Thursday on 1st muhurat, Friday on 7th muhurat, Saturday on 6th muhurat and Sunday on 5th muhurat.
