A study states that 70 per cent modern women and only 30 per cent men indulge into extra marital affairs. If you are thinking that this statistic is of some other country then you are mistaken. The figures indicate relationships in India.

The first reason that many of us may give would be 'Westernisation'. But on the second thought, is it the only reason? We went forward with this thought and found the answer in women psychology.

Here are the points which we came across as the answer to the statistics:

Insecurity : A women psyche always wants to be dependent and has the fear to loneliness. This attitude makes her crave for attention. They want their people to be around and submitt to their wishes. In today's rat race to be the richest, the couple barely spend time with each other. In this case, the women does not receive all the required spouce attention. This gradually leads to insecurity and thus the women tend to get attracted to someone who spends more time with her and fulfills her need for assistance.

Lower Status : In India, women suffer with inferiority complex and costantly try to overcome it. The husband generally in an Indian home is dominant, which further aggreviates the complex. The man who submits rather than dominates impresses the women and they cannot help but get attracted.

Competitive Behaviour : Women are in constant competition with each other. Husband's beautiful collegue is the major competitor and rival. Any association of the husband with the lady of envy, creats unreasonable suspition and the wife feels cheated. Going back to the first point, the hand which supports and lends attention becomes the anchor to the drowning heart.

Hold To Youth : Aging is the biggest fear and weakness of any lady and specially married ladies. "You don't look married," is the most prized compliment. A boy getting head over heals over a married women, is one of the biggest incentives for most married women to indulge in an extramarital relationship.

So, unlike the daily soaps portraying the cheated wife, married women too are getting into affairs. Reading the statistic, we may soon come up with soaps dedicated to a cheated husband!
