Liar ! Liar !
When was the last time you where taken for a ride? Have you ever felt manipulated by the one you loved? Did you hear your colleague constantly boast about the posh farmhouse he purchased when never possessed one? Did you ever hear a long sob story from your best friend who made deadly claims that she is about to die when indeed she is hale and hearty? What drives these people lying to the point of insanity and mindless attention? Is this a habit, addiction or disease?
Compulsive lying may be classified as a psychological disorder. The main reason is fear. They lie to escape from difficult realities. A compulsive liar resorts to lying in almost every situation till it develops into a habit. These compulsive liars believe that lying provides them solace from punishment and truth on the other hand , is destructive. Lying might provide temporary relief but it can make things from bad to worse in the long term. These liars believe that lying provides them the attention they desired for . As they are unable to live up to certain expectations or perceive themselves to be the most boring people in the world, these liars have a tendency to fabricate stories.
Compulsive lying can destroy relationships among loved and trusted friends when it takes the form of an addictive behaviour. At the point of revealing the hard and cold true facts, things fall apart for the person who believed these liars. They tend to blame themselves for being foolish, naÏve and gullible. However, it must be understood that any person with a heart would fall for their trap. The truth is that, they wanted your attention, emotions and trust and yes, they got more than they could ever ask for. These anti-social acts are perceived on the lines of addiction.
There are effective treatments for compulsive lying. A sincere effort to stop lying would be the simplest treatment . Behaviour therapy and cognitive behaviour therapy as suggested by psychologist can bring about desired results only if you are determined to be done with this vicious habit. Make a brave choice and work towards wishing the best for your well being because it is only the truth which sets you free.
