Raksha Bandhan 2026: Chefs Share Five Easy Recipes To Sweeten Sibling Celebrations
Raksha Bandhan afternoons in most Indian homes follow a familiar rhythm - the rakhi goes on, a sweet goes in, and everyone eventually drifts towards the kitchen for something more. This year, five chefs are rethinking what that "something" could be, swapping the usual mithai box for a pecan coffee cake, a pistachio sukhdi and a corn chaat that tends to disappear within minutes of hitting the table.
These Raksha Bandhan recipes lean on familiar ingredients but bring in small, contemporary twists - a tawa standing in for an oven, jaggery instead of refined sugar, whipped cream layered with kiwi instead of the usual custard. None of them demand professional skill or a long ingredient list, which makes them well suited to a day that's meant to be about the people around the table, not the hours spent in the kitchen.

- Place the pan on a tawa and cook on medium heat for 35-40 minutes.
- Once cooled, drizzle with glaze, slice, and serve.
Pista Sukhdi
By Chef Meghna Kamdar on behalf of American Pistachio Growers
Ingredients
- 50-70g blanched California pistachios, chopped
- 1 katori ghee, plus 2 tbsp extra for the jaggery
- 1½ katori wheat flour (atta)
- 2 tbsp besan (chickpea flour), optional
- 5-6 cardamoms, powdered
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 katori jaggery
Use the same katori for all measurements.
Method
- Chop the blanched pistachios and set aside.
- Heat 1 katori ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan. Add the atta and roast on medium heat until golden and fragrant.
- Lower the heat, then stir in the besan, chopped pistachios, cardamom powder and milk until well combined.
- In a separate pan, melt the jaggery in 2 tbsp ghee until smooth.
- Pour the melted jaggery into the roasted flour mixture. Mix quickly, turn off the heat, and keep stirring for about 2 minutes.
- Spread the mixture evenly onto a greased thali and garnish with the remaining chopped pistachios.
- While still warm, cut into squares or diamonds. Let it set for about 30 minutes before serving.

Bottomline
Raksha Bandhan doesn't need an elaborate spread to feel special, just something made by hand, for the people it's made for. Whether it's a slice of pecan cake or a square of warm sukhdi, these five recipes are proof that a little effort in the kitchen goes a long way on a day built around showing up for family.
