Generally, the health risk with pregnancy after 40 is great in terms of faulty size and weight of the foetus. The size may be either too small or too big leading to difficulties or complications. The size of the fetus is an essential marker for pre-existing heart conditions in the child.

High BP
The blood pressure of pregnant ladies is not constant in pregnancy and if the age is over 40 then the risk is more. Women should regularly monitor their blood pressure and consult the doctor in case of the slightest doubt or fluctuation.

Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes is a major yet common problem that is faced by most of the pregnant women. The risk of gestational diabetes increases manifold as it is one of the health risks with pregnancy after 40.

Women over the age of 40 may suffer from prolonged labour pain and are at a high risk to deliver still-born babies.

Mothers should get a regular health check-up done to prevent post delivery complications such as cardiomyopathy.
