Even after the much hyped swine flu epidemic, most of the people are averse in taking swine flu vaccines. Only 46 per cent patients, including pregnant women and those with chronic ailments, like asthma have opted for the vaccines.

However, pregnant women in particular are avoiding the vaccines as they are sceptical of some serious side-effects.

Though the government handed out leaflets and made online information available to persuade pregnant women to take the vaccine, doctors say the public"s response has been lukewarm.

Among all the pregnant women that the vaccines were offered to, only about one in every 20 women took it.
