Each style carries different characteristics and its impact on children. Parenting style also affects the relationship between the parents and their child. Each parenting style uses a different approach, likewise its result also varies.
Parenting is a personal choice and it depends on the mindset and wish of two people, i.e., the father and mother. A parenting style influences the mental development of children. It can also influence an overall emotional and psychological growth of children.
These four types of parenting styles differ in disciplinary manner, nurturing, warmth, communication method, control and maturity levels.
Research has concluded that the best type of parenting to be followed is the authoritative style of parenting. This parenting type creates a healthy environment for a growing child and keeps the parent-children relationship strong.
In this article, we have listed out four different styles of parenting, their characteristics and impact on the children. Take a look.

Permissive Parenting: Permissive parenting can be termed as lenient parenting or indulgent parenting. The characteristics of this parenting style are have few rules or standards of behaviour, rules can be inconsistent, don't expect too much from the child and keep nurturing and loving the children. The effects of this parenting style are that kids will lack self discipline, have poor social skills, will be highly demanding and feel insecure. Research suggests permissive parenting as not the best style of parenting.

Authoritative Parenting: This style of parenting encourages the child to be independent. Parents make use of discipline in every opportunity to teach a child how to make better choices. Authoritative parenting grounds between giving the children too much of freedom and being too strict. Children raised in this style of parenting are successful, happy with themselves, socially acceptable and generous with others. This parenting style can be regarded as the best parenting style.
Authoritarian Parenting: This parenting style is characterised by rigid rules and high expectations to be followed unconditionally. The characteristics of this parenting style are have strict rules and regulations, be very demanding but not responsive, don't nurture your children in nature and don't give children any options. The effects of this parenting type can show children to display a more aggressive behaviour outside home, have low self esteem, have difficulty in social situations and be overly shy around others. The kids exposed to this style of parenting may not perform well at school.

Uninvolved Parenting: Uninvolved parenting or neglectful parenting is the most harmful style of parenting. In this style of parenting, parents do not meet the needs of their kids and they expect kids to raise themselves. They have very little or no knowledge about what their kids are doing or want. Most of the times, it is due to a parent's mental health condition or substance abuse. Children exposed to this style of parenting are not happy in their lives, do not perform well in academics and have low self esteem.
