So, hygiene is essential to a growing baby and the skin is very much prone to infection if proper care is not taken. Infections can come in the form of skin irritations and diaper rash is a common sight among babies. They occur due to heat, moisture, or even yeast and fungus buildup on the bottom of babies.

An umpteen number of creams that are made with chemicals are available to cure the rashes, but aren't your little ones worth more than these artificial remedies?

Nature provides us with some incredible ingredients that can cure the rashes significantly. In addition, there are also some easy home remedies that can be administered to the babies. After all, you would want your baby to be safe. So, go the extra mile and follow these home remedies for diaper rashes in babies.

Warm Bath

Warm Bath

This is the simplest way to deal with diaper rash that might harm the baby. Fill the bathtub with some warm water.

Make your baby squat in there for about 10 to 15 minutes. This must be done at least three times a day for immediate relief. The diaper area must be dried completely after the bath.

Breast Milk

Breast Milk

Using breast milk is the least expensive and easiest way to treat diaper rash. Breast milk can fight infection to a great extent, as it is loaded with nutrients to provide resistance to babies. Simply express the milk, apply it on the rash, and allow it to air dry before putting on a diaper.

Baking Soda

Baking Soda

The alkaline nature of baking soda can neutralise the acidity in the rashes caused by urine. Just mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a bowl of lukewarm water. Dip in a soft cotton cloth, squeeze out the excess water and wipe it on the rashes. Allow it to dry completely and clean afterward. Apply in moderation.

Plain Yogurt

Plain Yogurt

Plain yogurt and baking soda - 1 to 2 tablespoons each
Olive oil - 3 to 4 drops

Apply yogurt on the rashes and let it sit for several minutes. Rinse off and dry completely. Put baking soda on the rashes and after an hour, apply olive oil directly to protect the skin from acidic waste.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal

Oatmeal helps preserve the skin's natural protective barrier. This ingredient can be made effective by mixing one tablespoon of powdered oatmeal to bathing water. Allow your baby to soak in the water for 10 to 15 minutes and then bathe him/her in the solution. This must be done twice daily.

White Vinegar

White Vinegar

White vinegar too does a good job in treating rashes. Combine one teaspoon of white vinegar in one cup of water. Use this solution to wipe the baby's bottom when it is time to change the diaper.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is highly beneficial for skin problems. It fights the fungus Candida that causes diaper rash in babies. Mix 2 tablespoons of coconut oil with 3 to 5 drops of tea tree oil. Apply this on the skin and leave it on for some time. This must be repeated several times in a day.

Cornstarch

Cornstarch

Cornstarch can work wonders for rashes. Clean up and dry the baby's bottom thoroughly. Spread just a pinch of cornstarch across the rashes.

This helps absorb the moisture and reduces friction that might cause a rash. Do this during the nappy changing time. One must be careful not to use too much of cornstarch, as it helps breed yeast rash.

Olive Oil

Olive Oil

Olive oil soothes the skin and reduces redness and itching in a great way. Mix equal parts of olive oil and water to form a white milky emulsion. Use the mix with gentle strokes on the bottom to safeguard your baby from diaper rash.

Shea Butter

Shea Butter

Shea butter has the capacity to kill the yeast that causes diaper rash. It is antifungal and has vegetable fats that help heal the rashes quickly. Melt some shea butter between your palms and rub it gently on the irritated skin of your baby. Do this during the nappy changing time.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe Vera Gel

The anti-inflammatory property of aloe vera deals well with diaper rashes. Simply apply the gel onto the rash and rub it in, using circular motions. This absorbs the moisture and keeps the bottom dry. Gel that is taken from the aloe vera leaf gives better benefits than the store-bought one.

Epsom Salt

Epsom Salt

Epsom salt is the best remedy for treating diaper rash in babies caused by yeast infection. Take a bath with this mixture of ingredients.
Epsom salt - 1 tablespoon
Baking soda - 1 to 2 tablespoon

Combine the ingredients in warm water and let your baby's bottom soak in it for 10 minutes. Dry the area completely. Repeat 2 or 3 times in a day.

Beeswax

Beeswax

A diaper rash cream with beeswax might work out for your baby. You will need:

Beeswax - 1/8th cup
Coconut oil - 2/3rd cup
Zinc oxide powder - ¾th tablespoon
Why zinc oxide? It is antibacterial and it protects the skin by forming a barrier against wetness. Double boil beeswax and coconut oil together and add in the zinc oxide powder. Combine well using a blender and transfer it into a container. Allow to cool and solidify before use.

Cranberry Juice

Cranberry Juice

Cranberry juice must be consumed rather than applied on the rashes. For this reason, this remedy must be tried on older infants only. Having 3 ounces of the juice kills the bacteria sticking to the bladder that might cause an infection. This is to be repeated several times for best results.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar

The anti-bacterial agents in apple cider vinegar fight rashes effectively. Mix up a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in half a cup of lukewarm water. Dab this solution onto the affected area with the help of a wash cloth. Alternatively, create a spray by mixing 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar with 8 ounces of water.

Fresh Air

Fresh Air

Let your baby's skin breathe some fresh air. Healing of the rashes speeds up by doing this. Simply set aside some time during the day when your baby can go bottomless. Some absorbent towels or sheets can be used to prevent the mess of peeing and pooping.

Cloth Wipes

Cloth Wipes

Commercial bottom wipes are loaded with chemicals to maintain hygiene for the baby. These chemicals might actually sting the rashes and cause pain. So, using a normal damp cloth wipe to clean the bottom is a good alternative to commercial wipes.
