Kiron Kher Unveils Gaurang's Weaves in Mumbai

By Super

Award winning Textile designer Gaurang displayed his red carpet style saris collection titled ‘Gulbadan Revived' in Mumbai today. These mogul era saris and dresses inspired by vintage Kota, Chikankari, Kanjeevaram, Uppada, Banaras Jamdani work took over 6 months to weave. His exhibition and sale of all occasion wearable weaves had an enthusiastic turnout of stylists and hi-fashion consumers. Part of the proceeds from sale will go to widen his vision to support the Jamdani weavers.

"It certainly is the most satisfying moment for a textile designer when his dress or a saree makes a woman special and to feel being the most beautiful women on red carpet" Gaurang says. My idea of sari is to be traditional yet stylish. I am a revivalist and I love to re-create history. My new collections are aimed to break the myth that sari's and traditional Indian woven fabrics are not sexy, formal and cool. When we sit on the design board with our weavers our goal was to create a line that is stylish and stands absolutely traditional. We hope as we move forward our creations will be trendier and cooler to wear. Many of the collections on sale featured the 1950's and 1960's look.

I have worn his saris in many red carpet shows and even in realty shows like India Got Talent which made me feel so special and Indian."

"I love Mumbai and every time I come here I get a lot of admiration for my twists to Indian textiles and jamdani creations. This time I wanted to give the Mumbai Fashionista's a classic Akbar-era feel while maintaining a vibrant modern style. My inspiration this summer comes from the beautiful Taj Mahal floral drawings inlaid on the marble floor, one among them was the sari worn by my showstopper at Lakme Fashion Week 2013 which was a black kota sari with pure gold zari", Gaurang added.

Speaking about Kiron Kher and the sari he created for her he said, the stars always have an appeal for the fashion direction and she stands-out all the time.
