The Weightlifter Who Dislocated His Elbow
Armenian weightlifter Andranik Karapetyan attempted to lift 195 kgs when this accident occurred. In the clean and jerk competition, he suffered from a horrifying extended elbow that caused his arm to bend in the wrong direction. The injury wrecked his chances of winning the medal in the competition.

A German gymnast named Andreas Toba suffered a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) while qualifying for the men's floor event. The best part about him was that he did not give up and later in the day he completed the event with a torn ACL, so that Germany could qualify for the next round.

Cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten from Germany had a tragic tumble during the Women's Road Race and she was leading it. She lost control on the descent and fell on the roadside curb. She suffered three spinal fractures and concussion and is on the road to recovery.
