Wine Myths You Haven't Heard Off
Before you read on to see some of the famous wine myths let me tell you a short story on the discovery of wine. It is a Persian mythological story of a princess who lost favour with her father who was king. She then decided to ingest poison in the form of spoiled grapes from an old jar. Now instead of dying, she became intoxicated and passed out for a short period of time. When she awoke, she found that her behavior changed for the better and apparently gained her father's approval of what she wanted. The princess then told her father about her discovery which led to the king ordering the deliberate production of these so called 'spoiled grapes' which is now widely known as wine.
The consumption of wine has become very accessible over the past years and ever since then myths surrounding it have been exposed. However, there are a few myths which have been debunked. Lets take a look at some of the wine myths that have been ringing around town for quite some time. If you are an ardent wine lover, you will definitely find yourself relating to some of these myths which have been stated below.

Corked Wine
Experts say that one can judge the quality of the wine by smelling its cork. However, this is one of the many wine myths recorded since corked wine is spoiled by the cork but it doesn't really smell like cork. You should know that the only smell you will get from a wine cork is that of wood!

Decanting Wines
One of the famous wine myths is that red wine should be left uncorked for hours before it is decanted to get the real taste of the wine. However, this is not true since opening a bottle of wine will aerate the drink to make it loose out its taste.

Wine Cellar
It is not necessary for you to have a wine cellar to age your wine. All you need is a box or a rack for you to store your bottled wine. Only if you have a large wine collection will a wine cellar serve a purpose. So, for those of you who believe that wine can only age in a cellar, well think again!

Refrigeration
Many of us do not store our red or white wines in the refrigerator as they tend to become chewy, especially red wine. This is one of the many wine myths you surely must have come across. White wine is safe to put in the fridge for two hours before you serve the drink. Chilled wine always tastes better.

Money Matters
One of the common wine myths that people take so seriously is the cost of wine. If the bottle does not have a wooden cork , it is considered to be a cheap wine. Whether the cap is a screw on or a cork cap, wines are expensive depending on their type or brand.

White Wine v/s Red Wine
To get the real taste of wine, it is said to consume white wine with white meat and red wine with red meat. Although, this might serve as a great tip when you have guests, however, this is not always true.

Smell of Wine
You may ask yourself this question, why do people smell a glass of wine before taking a sip? There is a wine myth which says that if we smell the wine before you drink it, the aroma is said to intoxicate you. However, this is untrue, because people generally smell wine to see if is good to drink or not.

Grapes
Most believe that red wine is made from grape juice. Did you know that grape juice is actually colourless, regardless of the grape colour. However, red wine gets its color from the fermentation process when the grape skins are left in contact with the juice.
