In our journey of life we are destined to grow old as we survive the road to it. Most of us fear old age as we grow up due to various factors ranging from ageing of appearance to deteriorating of physical ability and health. As growing old is an inevitable part of our life, accepting it with grace makes for a happier life. Grieving people you know becomes part of your old age.

Some of the fears of old age are deep rooted in our society due to mistreating of aged people by their kin's, fear of losing independence physically and financially as we age. It is important to plan your retirement and old age financially in advance. Leading a health lifestyle during prime of your life also helps maintain a healthy life during your old age.

10 Fears Of Old Age

Maintaining a healthy relationship with your children helps you have a helping hand during your old age as they tend to return the favour when in need. This fear of loneliness or isolation is what people fear most in old age. One of the most feared aspect of old age is out living the partner you loved and lived your life with. Let us take a look at some of the fears of old age.

1. Physical ability
As you grow old, you are unable to do most of the physical things you used to when young. This makes you frustrated and tied down at times. Even a long morning walk becomes a dream at some stage.

2. Financial freedom
You tend to neglect a proper financial planning that is required to secure your old age financially. A proper retirement benefit and income savings are essential to make your old age a happy and stress free life.

3. Grief
As you grow older you tend to grieve the loss of a lot of people whom you have known as you have grown old with them and people whom you loved. This sense of loss makes you fear loneliness.

4. Outlive
The most dreadful thought as you grow old is to outlive your loved partner with whom you would have spent a large chunk of your adult life with. This makes you feel losing a part of yourself resulting in a lot of loneliness and depression in old age.

5. Health
As you grow up, you tend to neglect your health due to laziness or a busy life running after wealth. This may affect your life during old age resulting in many health related issues that affect most of the aged people.

6. Children
Raising a child with love, care and values is very important as these will make them give something back during your old age. A helping hand or a comforting shoulder is more valued as you age.

7. Loss of youth
Some of us are highly mindful of our physical appearance. As we age, the youthful appearance tends to fade and leave signs of ageing such as wrinkles and spots.

8. Retirement
Some of us are too much into working and worship our work to an extent of obsession which makes us fear retirement that comes with old age, and emptiness that follows.

9. Loss of memory
As we grow old, our brain cells start to decay and die resulting in lots of memories being erased. Loss of such wonderful memories that have been part of us over the years brings distress.

10. Death
Even though death is an inevitable part of life and its journey, as you grow old the thought of dying brings about a fear of unknown. Knowing death is around the corner during old age is a fearful thought many fail to handle well.
