Anti-Tobacco Campaign In Mumbai
In their attempt to ban the tobacco use in the country, students of a Management Studies College organized a campaign called "Pratigya".

The students marched down the main roads of the state emphasizing the need to take effective measures against this menace. Holding banners and placards carrying anti-tobacco slogans and wearing masks the 400 participants walked five kilometers .

"To increase the awareness of people, such campaigns are mandatory. The campaign starts from the daughter or son taking out the cigarette from father"s mouth," said K L Prasad, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Mumbai Police, one of the participants.

This came in response to the continued tobacco consumption in spite of the government's ban on public smoking. No serious law has been implemented so far and the critics feel that the public should assist the government to stop the dreadful act of smoking.

The Delhi Medical Association revealed that every ten seconds, some person dies of tobacco use in the world. At the current rate by 2025 a person will die every three seconds, it said. India has half the men and one fourth of women suffering from cancer due to tobacco. AGENCIES
