Cannes is a film festival where you always see the best and worst side of celebrity fashion. While some go haywire with their style statement, some manage to preserve some old fashioned classic sense. Cannes 2012 was, in that sense, a textbook of good fashion. And it is good to see some of the first timers in the best dressed list.

1. Aishwarya Rai: Post pregnancy fat has fetched the Indian diva unwarranted flak from various sections of the media. But,kudos to this lady who refuses to back down. She has manged to sizzle her way on the Cannes red carpet despite criticism about her extra 20 pounds. The off white chikan work saree draped over a full sleeved brocade jacket was a Abu-Sandeep creation. The embroidery of the full sleeved blouse was really well flaunted by the diva.

2. Kristen Stewart: She is the find of Cannes 2012. The blood red Reem Acra gown only got things started for the vampire fiction star. The red gown and pale makeup kept her Twilight fame in the limelight. The silk Balanciaga thigh slit gown with dappled green was a twitter rage by the end of the evening as it showed of a high slit on her right thigh. 3. Mila Jokovich: This stunning model continues her good run this year on the Cannes red carpet too. She out shone the stars of On The Road (Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst) at the premiere in a baby pink one shouldered dress. She was latter seen in a shimmering Prada creation that took everyone's breath away. 'Stealing the show' is becoming a bit of a habit for this Resident Evil star.

4. Reese Witherspoon: We can attribute the fresh glow on her face to pregnancy and a happy marriage. But, the shimmering midnight blue Versace dress is an outcome of some great fashion sense. A pregnant Reese Witherspoon displayed her baby bump and dazzling jewels from Chopard with equal panache.

5. Sonam Kapoor: Unlike her last year's clean chit style at Cannes, this year was bit of a mixed bag for Sonam. Her black vintage dress was heavily criticized but she sprung back with a pretty red dress from Dolce & Gabbana.
