Karan Johar Ends Koffee With Karan: Last Season Streams 14 Oct

The hamper, the couch and the rapid-fire round now have an end date. Koffee With Karan Season 9 will begin streaming on JioHotstar from 14 October, and it will be the final season of Karan Johar's celebrity chat show.

Johar made the announcement on 30 September with a promo in which he looks back at the show's beginnings. After eight seasons and 161 episodes, he has decided to end it. "This will be my very last season of Koffee With Karan," he says in the video.

Where And When To Watch Season 9

The last season will stream exclusively on JioHotstar from 14 October. The show has been a streaming exclusive since its move to the platform's Hotstar Specials label in 2022. The guest list and episode count had not been revealed at the time of the announcement.

Why Karan Johar Is Calling Time

The reason, by his own account, is creative. Johar wants to devote more time to directing films and telling stories, and has described the decision as an emotional and personal one. He said he was making this season the last "with a heavy heart".

There is a wry note in the promo too. He jokes that people often ask him about the next season of Koffee With Karan instead of his next film.

Twenty-Two Years On The Couch

The show began in 2004, and its early years belonged to television. The first six seasons aired on Star World between 2004 and 2019. In 2022, Johar announced that the show's run was over, but later clarified that it was television it was leaving behind. The streaming era followed, and Season 9 closes it.

The promo also goes back to the very start. Karan recalls telling his father, filmmaker Yash Johar, that he wanted to host a show of informal, candid conversations with two celebrities. His father questioned who would pay him simply to talk to his friends. Yash Johar died in June 2004, just months before shooting began.

The Segments That Became Pop Culture

The Rapid Fire Round, in which celebrities face quick and often provocative questions, remains one of the show's most popular segments. The Koffee Quiz, in which guests go head to head, arrived in season 4. Both turned casual chat into clips, memes and headlines, which is how the show became a fixture of the

For 22 years, Koffee With Karan has been the place where Bollywood talks about itself, often more candidly than it planned to. Season 9 gives that conversation an ending. From 14 October, viewers get one last round of the couch, the quiz and the confessions.
