Food Items Sent With Brides During Bidai In Bihar And Uttar Pradesh
Indian weddings are known for being big and fat. They are not only a treat to your eyes, but an ode to your taste buds as well. From dance performances to speeches, there is a whole set of emotions that go up and down during the entire event.
While on the one hand, your friends and siblings celebrate marriage and enjoy the rituals, for parents it is a sweet and sorrowful feeling of letting their princess go. There is a special post-wedding ceremony to say goodbye to the woman (bride) who goes to her husband's house after marriage and it is known as 'Bidai'.

It is believed to be an auspicious ritual in Indian weddings and there is a belief that sending sweets and snacks is a sign of prosperity and happiness. Here is a list of curated food items that are sent with the bride in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
1. Bhujiya
It's a plain and deep-fried savoury snack made with gram flour batter and seasoned with salt, cardamom, ground black pepper, asafoetida and red chilli powder.
2. Boondi Laddoo
A popular Indian sweet spherical sweet that is prepared with gram flour boondi, cucumber seeds and sugar syrup, which is then bound into small balls.
3. Khaja
It is a traditional Indian deep-fried crispy dessert (a pastry) and is known as Mahaprasad in Odisha. It is made with oil and refined flour and is soaked in thick sugar syrup.
4. Balushahi
It is a traditional glazed doughnut but differs a lot in texture and taste from how a doughnut tastes. It has its origin in Rajasthan. It is made with ghee, sugar syrup and all-purpose flour. It can be stored for 7-10 days.
5. Shakarpara
A deep-fried crunchy sweet snack in a cube shape that is made with refined flour, ghee and sugar syrup. It is also known as hakkarpara, murali, khurma, and lakdi mithai.
6. Namak Para
A diamond-shaped crispy, savoury and crunchy deep-fried snack that is made using all-purpose flour, red chilli powder, salt, oil, carom seeds, and spicy black pepper.
7. Lavang Latika
It is a traditional sweet dish made with khoya or mawa, refined flour, salt, cloves, sugar syrup, milk, cardamom powder and saffron strands. It is a very rich and aromatic dessert.
