By Suparna Chakaraborthy

Michael Douglas
Oscar winner actor, Michael Douglas has been diagnosed with throat cancer. He has been suffering from severe throat and ear pain since a long time, but the tumor in his throat has been diagnosed only 3 weeks back and is said to have spread to the lymph nodes in the neck. His wife Catherine Zeta Jones has expressed her annoyance in the delayed diagnosis.

Dr. Robert Haddad have confirmed that Michael Douglas is suffering advanced stage of throat cancer. If it would have been in the first or second stage, just radiation would be enough but as he has reached the third stage, he needs to take Chemotherapy. He will be given Radiation and Chemotherapy for eight weeks.

During this period he will be fed through a tube. Chemotherapy can be painful and side effects like mouth soars are possible. The side effects will last for few more months after the treatment. He would have to be given Narcotics like Morphine, to bear the pain.

Doctors however hope complete recovery of Michael Douglas. After the treatment, Douglas can never smoke, not even passive smoking. He cannot indulge in boozing either. Michael Douglas however, has taken up this as a challenge and is sure he will fight it.
