Continuing its love affair with the "jewelled arts of India", Dubai will hold the display of premiere antique Indian jewellery and related works of art starting today.

The four-day event, supported by the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing, would display jewellery valued at more than 200 million dollars at the Madinat Jumeirah.

India's close proximity to the Gulf states and the presence of a large expatriate Indian community in Dubai might result in a huge revenue generation, the organisers believed.

There has always been great passion for Indian art and antique-- decorative, religious, or jewelled. The contemporary Indian art was generating a lot of interest but Indian antique pieces were still an international favourite, having stood the test of time, the Khaleej Times quoted Samina Khanyari of Samina Inc as saying.

Samina Inc, leading dealers in 17th-20th century Indian jewellery, would exhibit a selection of vintage photographs of princely India and princely robes.

Susan ollemans' Oriental Art from London was also participating in the fair with an exquisite collection of jewelled Mughal boxes and gold boxes, a fly whisk set with precious stones, turban ornaments, jewelled dagger handles and fighting knives of steel inlaid with gold among other pieces. Other exhibits were champleve-enamelled gold bracelet, kundan set with diamonds and Basra pearls.
