Lifestyle characteristics are often used to define the sub-segments. Core users vary from a brand's target market. The target market is used for making volume and sales estimates and for media plans. Usually several brands in a category have the same target market. Conversely, a description of core user gives a clear picture of a sub-category of users that differentiates them, and is meaningful. Defining core users gives the brand a personality and strongly suggests brand benefits.
