Lombo Tayeng To Ensure Safety For Women

Itanagar,Oct 12 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Minister for Social Welfare, women & Child Development Lombo Tayeng has said the government was fully committed to ensuring safety of women in the state.

Taking part at the first consultative meeting on Restraint of Child Marriages and Forced Marriages, organised by Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for women(APSCW) here yesterday, Mr Tayeng deplored such practices in the modern era and said it was high time to bring about changes in the society.

The Minister advocated that a legislation to this effect could be brought in the Assembly to curb child marriages and forced marriages provided the APSCW took the initiative to approach the government with such a proposal.

He further assured full support to the efforts being made by the APSCW for protection of the rights of women and girl child, stating that it was necessary to raise awareness in the society.

Mr Tayeng further exhorted the Legislators to focus on the problems confronting the society.

The Minister admitted that political will was necessary for taking bold steps to solve the problem.

Regretting that juvenile home at Pasighat in East Siang district could not be activated due to fund constraints, he assured that completion of the same besides setting up of old age homes would receive priority of the government.

Director General of Police (DGP) Amod Kanth and APSCW chairperson Jarjum Ete also stressed upon the importance of holding discussion on such issues and advocated for state plan of action for children to tackle crimes against girl child.
