Rituparno's first commercial film
By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM
"Till now Rituparno Ghosh has been associated with meaningful cinema/arthouse films. He's all set to direct his first full-fledged commercial/mainstream film," states Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharjee [CEO, Planman Life], the production house that's producing the film. Sounds interesting. "It is, believe me. It's a comedy with elements of fantasy. A unique concept," Shubho adds.
Titled SUNGLASS, the film will be made in two languages simultaneously -- Hindi and Bengali -- and will star Sanjay Suri, Konkona Sen Sharma, Jaya Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah and Raima Sen in principal roles. Shooting of this bilingual will commence from August 1. The film will have four songs, composed by 21 Grams [music band].
That's not the only project Planman is working on. "We've also started filming MITHYA, a thriller, starring Naseeruddin Shah and Neha Dhupia in key roles. Rajat Kapoor [MIXED DOUBLES] is directing this one," Shubho divulges.
The three-film deal with Aziz Mirza is also getting concretized. "Two of the three scripts have already been finalized. Currently, we are in talks with the actors for the two films that will be directed by Aziz-ji himself," Shubho adds. At a point of time, Salman Khan was supposed to essay the male lead in one of the films, but he expressed his inability due to date problems.
There's one more film on the cards, a comedy -- this one will be an adaptation of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. "It's set in Delhi. We might call the film RANGEEN IN COLOR," reveals Shubho, adding that the casting is in progress. Sharad Kataria, an associate of Rajat Kapoor, will direct this film, which should takeoff in December this year.
