Monsoon 2023: 6 Tips To Keep Your Clothes Moisture And Germ-Free
The monsoons in India can be aggressive and stepping out of the house to attend school, college or go to the office is inevitable. But getting drenched in the heavy rains and dealing with wet clothes later is not exactly an enjoyable task to perform.
In monsoons, the dirt, germs, and debris accumulation on your clothes is higher compared to other seasons and if not washed properly, the clothes will continue to carry these invisible microbes. If you wondering how to avoid the moisture and odour on your clothes and keep the germ-free then we got you covered!

Here are 6 effective tips to keep your clothes clean and fresh during monsoons:
Wash the Wet Clothes Immediately
When your clothes are completely soaked from the rain, it is highly advisable to put them to wash immediately. Piling up the wet and dirty clothes in the laundry bag or bucket is a terrible idea as the clothes will continue to have germs and foul odour over the same. Wash wet clothes immediately either with your hands or with the use of a washing machine.
Select Scented Detergent
Opting for a scented detergent is a simple yet effective hack to remove foul odours and musty smells. Go for a quality clothing detergent to wash your clothes during monsoons and for other seasons too. Wash your clothes gently and avoid scrubbing the stains with a harsh clothing brush.
Iron Over the Moisture
During the rainy season, it may happen that your perfectly washed and dried-up clothes still feel musty. This can happen with bigger-size fabrics like sarees, dresses, bed sheets, etc. To ensure that your clothes are not smelly and germ-free, ensure to iron them as soon as they dry. That way, you will have fresh-smelling and perfectly pressed clothes.
Let the Clothes Dry Completely
Getting to wear completely dry clothes is possible if your washing machine has a dryer facility. But clothes can feel a little damp or musty even if you think you have given enough time to dry them up. Avoid wearing even a little bit of damp clothes as you will have to carry the uncomfortable dampness over you. Ensure that the washed clothes have dried up completely or opt for other clean and dry clothes from your closet.
Use Camphor Balls
The foul smell lingering on the slightly damp clothes, wet footwear, area rugs, etc feels uncomfortable. The reason being the moisture available in the air around us adds to the musty smell and makes it worse. The simplest hack to get rid of the foul odour is to place a few camphor balls in the wardrobe, shoe rack, cabinets, etc. These are super effective in absorbing moisture in the air and ensure you have a pleasant fragrance around you!
Deodorize the Washing Machine
Apart from the dirty, damp clothes, even your washing machine needs a fair share of deodorization during monsoon. Simply add some backing powder or washing machine cleaner in the drum, set the machine to normal wash or in tub clean mode and let the washing machine get cleaned thoroughly. This is helpful to remove any foul smell that may be present inside the washing machine drum and leave the machine completely clean and ready for the next wash!
