Treatment for white, bland walls

Seeing these white walls, all thoughts reach an abrupt end. Your creativeness vanishes. A little savvy with these walls can help successfully pull a room together. But, always keep in mind not to follow anyone's ideas blindly. This being your home, it should reflect your personality and interests.

Start with your windows, your half of the burden seems to melt. By hanging your curtains well above the actual height and beyond the width of the window, you will cover much of that bland wall. You can even add a mirror in place of a window. We will guide you through window decorating in our next issue.

For instance, you are restricted with older space with same furnitures or open to the possibilities of stark new space. Whatever, the circumstances, framed arts or print is always welcome. A nice piece of artwork will always add interest to the room. When hanging one piece, make sure it is properly sized for the wall you are hanging it on, be careful not to hang it high on the wall. When opting for group photos, be sure to evenly space them.

To use framed art as wall decor, colour, grouping, proportions and hanging need to given careful consideration. You can begin by, thinking about the feeling or mood you want to convey. Consider colours and styles of funitures, contrast or compliment that to flooring. Study the space itself. Is the living room large and expansive, with high ceilings, or small and intimate?

Careful hanging, relationships and grouping will give a professional look. Unity is most important in bringing a display of pictures, prints and photographs together. Grouping frames for your walls will give character to the setting. Frames in the same colour and finishes unify a collection, even if pictures are of various shapes and sizes. Framing different subjects with the same colour mount also helps unity. Another very important point to note is that, in living rooms, pictures should be at eye level when seated.

Fabric is the new mantra for those white walls. Wallpaper it with fabrics. Placing fabric is a simple process. It is just like wallpapering, except you are using fabric and starch, which will help you to remove and reuse it easily.

Before you begin, decide which walls you would like to fabric. Do you want to cover the whole wall, or would you prefer to do half a wall and apply a border trim? You may even choose to create a collage of colours and place a decorative frame around it, or use the fabric to create wall mural. So, get ready for it and go the 'fab' way!!
